Since her childhood, Mrs. Basma Aqeel used to see the women in her village wearing embroidered dresses in the beautiful colors of nature. She loved the details of the grandmothers’ dresses and the colors of flowers that cover the plains and mountains in her village (Maleih) in Madaba Governorate. From here, her passion began to learn the first craft out of more than Thirty handicrafts that she mastered and trained in the governorates of Jordan, The beginning was at the age of nine when the girls were having fun playing. Basma used to make her mother’s dresses embroidered in beautiful silk colors to wear with pride in her daughter’s achievement, as she learned a lot of traditional crafts such as weaving, making straws, embroidery, and other things handicrafts.
In their mid-nineties, and under difficult financial circumstances, her craft was the lifeline to get out of this crisis, and it was the main support for her to suffice her need and meet her needs. Then she realized the importance of what she had learned when she was young, so she decided to continue in this field, refine her talent, and learn everything new away from her university studies. Her craft also added to her integration into the local community, and she became a volunteer member in more than one charitable association and an administrative board member in the Association of Traditional Craftsmen, and an accredited trainer in many governmental institutions and some organizations and associations. She also trains women of all ages in rural and remote areas in all governorates to enable them economically to become effective members of society and to obtain an independent income.
Basma aspires to own a training center concerned with training all ancient and contemporary traditional crafts for different ages, as expectations indicate the growth of the handicraft sector in the coming years, so Basma joined the CRAFTS MARKET platform and believes in the continuation of her success through this platform, which aims to take the hand of craftsmen and Helping them achieve their ambitions and lead them to a high level of success and development.
